Synopsis Hooper's style is decorous and decorative, using Danny Cohen's luminous cinematography to create picture-postcard versions of both Copenhagen, where the story begins, and Paris, where the couple ended up moving.[I]mpeccably made -- well-cast and strongly acted, flawlessly appointed and gorgeously shot...[T]he film is exquisitely made, capturing its time and place with a jeweler’s eye. -- Grade: B3.5 stars out of 4 -- What Hooper has crafted is a work of probing intelligence and passionate heart.Exquisite and restrained....This is a lovely movie, with a sweeping score by Alexandre Desplat, endless exterior beauty shots, and myriad scenes set in sophisticated parties...With his lush settings, yieldingly gentle tones and exquisite sense of visual design, director Tom Hooper has developed something of a house style.4 stars out of 5 -- It’s a beautifully mounted, restrained picture but no less moving for it.After standing in as a female model for a painting by his wife Gerda (Alicia Vikander), Danish artist Einar Wegener (Eddie Redmayne) becomes enamored with his feminine identity and begins living as a woman named Lili Elbe. Although their marriage becomes strained, Gerda stands by Lili as she explores her true self and eventually undergoes one of the world's first gender-reassignment surgeries in the 1930s. This touching biopic was adapted from David Ebershoff's book of the same name, and helmed by director Tom Hooper (THE KING'S SPEECH).
