Synopsis 3.5 stars out of 4 -- [A]n indelibly funny and touching comedy with a real sting in its tail....Westfeldt is the pulse of FRIENDS WITH KIDS, presenting us with life in all of its vibrant, messy sprawl.Much of the romantic comedy FRIENDS WITH KIDS is a funny dispatch from a very contemporary Earth....The observations about parenthood, pro and con, are quick and smart, and Scott effortlessly steals the show... -- Grade: B+Westfeldt gives her actors the room to reveal plenty about their characters in a way that's subtle...4 stars out of 5 -- Westfeldt got top-notch performances from her cast, especially stand out Adam Scott, a fine actor with a breakout role that could take him to the next level; he's warm and real, pulling off a potentially tricky part.[An] affable, witty and sophisticated comedy....Westfeldt is charming as Julie, a successful woman who can't seem to find the right man...FRIENDS WITH KIDS proves that Scott can carry a movie: His comic timing is crisp and on-point, but he's also capable of playing it straight when he needs to.3 stars out of 5 -- [Westfeldt] proves a sharp, funny, ambitious talent in her directorial debut...FRIENDS WITH KIDS is another showcase for Westfeldt's talent for creating convincing characters and razor-sharp dialogue that's rich in contemporary relationship observations.Jennifer Westfeldt wrote, directed, and stars in the romantic comedy FRIENDS WITH KIDS. She plays Julie, a Manhattanite whose biological clock is about to run out, so she convinces her longtime platonic best friend, Jason (Adam Scott) to father a child with her. They seem to have a much easier time juggling the responsibilities of new parenthood without the complication of being in a relationship with each other, which is in contrast to the two couples they are closest to. As their friends' marriages implode, Julie and Jason's happy equilibrium topples over as well when he falls for a hot young artist (Megan Fox) and she begins dating a successful businessman (Edward Burns). FRIENDS WITH KIDS played at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival.
