Synopsis Alfonso Cuaron's white-knuckle space odyssey restores a sense of wonder, terror and possibility to the bigscreen...At once the most realistic and beautifully choreographed film ever set in space, GRAVITY is a thrillingly realized survival story spiked with interludes of breath-catching tension and startling surprise.Cuaron has taken 90 minutes of screen time and packed them with artistry, emotion and shattering suspense. The result is an experience none of us could have dreamed of until now, the most beautiful popcorn movie ever made.4 stars out of 4 -- GRAVITY is the kind of enthralling, all-encompassing, giddy cinematic experience that surfaces once in a blue moon.Cuarón expertly blends the epic with the intimate. For every stunning 3-D setpiece involving a dangerous hailstorm of metallic debris, there’s a moment of small tenderness...Mr. Cuarón succeeds by tethering almost unfathomably complex techniques — both digital and analog -- to a simple narrative. GRAVITY is less a science-fiction spectacle than a Jack London tale in orbit. This is one of the most stunning visual treats of the year and one of the most unforgettable thrill rides in recent memory.GRAVITY is an awesome technological daydream of a movie....It's a tale of disaster and grief and survival rooted in the possibilities of space travel as they exist today. -- Grade: A4 stars out of 4 -- For all its stunning exteriors, it's really concerned with emotional interiors, and it goes about exploring them with simplicity and directness, letting the actors's faces and voices carry the burden of meaning.5 stars out of 5 -- [Bullock] delivers what could be the performance of her career here -- a high-wire act that blends physical dexterity, emotional vulnerability and mental toughness.5 stars out of 5 -- No film since 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY has so fully communicated the absoluteness of space...Director Alfonso Cuaron's GRAVITY stars Sandra Bullock as Dr. Ryan Stone, a scientist on a space shuttle mission headed by astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney), a talkative, charismatic leader full of colorful stories that he shares with his crewmates as well as mission control. As the two are on a space walk, debris hits the area where they are working, and soon the pair finds themselves detached from their ship and stranded in space. While figuring out what steps they can take to save themselves, Stone grapples with a painful past that makes her consider giving up altogether. GRAVITY screened at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.
