| Synopsis | 3 stars out of 4 -- [S]urprisingly fresh....The script from Cheo Hodari Coker and Elgin James breathes life into these tried-and-true conceits with well-developed, complex characters.[T]here are some fine performances, notably Bichir’s well-honed way with vulnerable machismo and Eva Longoria’s charismatic heart as Danny’s sensitive stepmother.[With] a standout performance by Theo Rossi as the black sheep of the family...An aimless young street artist in Los Angeles named Danny (Gabriel Chavarria) finds himself torn between the lowrider car culture of his father (Demián Bichir) and his desire for a creative outlet. This generational clash is further complicated when Danny's older brother (Theo Rossi) returns home from prison. Ricardo de Montreuil directed this urban drama. |
