Synopsis [T]his warm and affectionate human comedy from India is charming in a delicate and unforced way.THE LUNCHBOX tells its tale with exceptional grace, and an urgency that grows, paradoxically, from its slow but assured pace.Serving as a backdrop, the streets, homes, and office spaces of Mumbai are rendered in warm tones by cinematographer Michael Simmonds...THE LUNCHBOX has the measured pace and Classical restraint of a romance from the ’30s or ’40s.The realism and the fable blend nicely.[A] witty and perceptive film that reveals the hopes, sorrows and regrets of ordinary people.[T]here's enough warmth and wit packed in to suggest this Indian charmer could have breakout potential....[A] gently captivating drama...4 stars out of 5 -- Charming and whimsical, it's a feast for the eyes.In Ritesh Batra’s beguiling romance THE LUNCHBOX, a virtual relationship blossoms not through a sexy operating system as in HER...but the old--fashioned way, through carefully written notes delivered by hand every day.Ritesh Batra's THE LUNCHBOX stars Irrfan Khan as Saajan, a government accountant who is nearing retirement. He pays for his lunch to be delivered at work from a local restaurant, but his order is mixed with a meal prepared by Ila (Nimrat Kaur), a housewife who thought she was making lunch for her husband. When he eats every bite of the incorrectly delivered lunch, Ila asks her husband about her success, but his response convinces her that her hubby never got the food she prepared. Ila puts a note in the next lunch, and soon she and Saajan develop a pen-pal relationship. THE LUNCHBOX screened at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival
