Synopsis 4 stars out of 5 -- PADDINGTON is sweet and silly and, at times, edge-of-the-seat stuff.[T]horoughly endearing....With the effects warmly recalling the old-school animatronic work of Jim Henson.[Q]uite charming, thoughtful and as cuddly as a plush toy, albeit one with a few modern gizmos thrown in...5 stars out of 5 -- [W]ith gloriously silly jokes, pitch-perfect performances and incidental detail, this is a warm, witty and wondrously inventive great big bear-hug of a movie.[D]elightful, wrapping the viewer in an enhanced story about one very polite bear who loves marmalade and has an endless talent for getting into trouble.3 stars out of 4 -- An old-fashioned sensibility amid a modern setting juxtaposes cleverly here....And Paddington is always kind and exceedingly polite -- a lovely role model for young audience members.Artfully and cleverly, the sweet spirit of that young bear from darkest Peru and his many London misadventures materializes brilliantly on screen in the very good hands of writer-director-conjurer Paul King.3 stars out of 4 -- It remains faithful to the character’s roots while also placing him firmly within a contemporary setting. It’s charmingly funny and shamelessly punny.[A] gloriously whimsical big-screen debut that's closer to the madcap spirit of the Muppets and the lovingly rendered style of a Wes Anderson film than to standard multiplex family fodder. -- Grade: A-3 stars out of 4 -- It's all very droll and quietly, memorably dazzling.[W]hat Paddington presents is an essentially sweet-tempered vision of urban life founded on shared values of decency.[T]he film demonstrates a generosity of spirit that's both cheering and utterly consistent with Michael Bond's original creation.Beloved bear Paddington gets the big-screen treatment in this family film adapted from Michael Bond's enduring children's book series. As the story opens, Peruvian bear Paddington (voice of Ben Whishaw) makes his way to the big city, where he quickly gets lost until being taken in by the benevolent Brown family. Meanwhile, as the curious cub settles into his new life of domestic bliss, a scheming museum taxidermist embarks on a personal mission to get him stuffed and mounted. Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, and Jim Broadbent star in a film featuring Peter Capaldi and Nicole Kidman.
